Aston & Fincher Fundraising Team
Aston & Fincher in 2007 and 2008 have been raising money for a local charity
‘The Maria Watt Birmingham Foundation for Childhood and Teenage Leukaemia'.
The charitable trust was established in memory of young girl called Maria, who developed Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in June 2005.
Leukaemia is Britain 's largest childhood killer and although there are many new treatments, the incidence of this devastating illness is increasing. Research is needed to find out the causes behind the illness and ways to protect our children.
We need to raise awareness of this illness. It can happen to any healthy child, who can suddenly fall ill and have only months to live…it could happen to anyone. Parents need to be aware of the signs of this illness, sometimes of which you would never even suspect as they can be common childhood symptoms.
Maria's family set up the charity to raise awareness amongst parents of the illness, support research that looks into ways of preventing the illness and supporting the build of a specialist teenage cancer unit in Birmingham , which will provide young people with the support they need.
Everyday six teenagers will hear the words "you have cancer". We can help.
