Charity Cycle Ride 2019

Charity Cycle Ride 2019
Posted in: Company

For over 10 years, Aston & Fincher has sent a team to the Wolverhampton to Aberdovey Charity Bike Ride. It’s 104 miles of rolling roads, crossing the Welsh borders and then mixing a valley floor route with some vigorous climbs. June 2019 saw wonderful weather, over 600 starters and the biggest team Aston & Fincher has fielded to date, with 9 starters. Every area of the business was covered: office, warehouse, senior management, store and sales. Male and female, young and not-so-young! But how would they get on?

Bike Ride Start

Every year we support a charity which means a lot to one of our team members, and this time it was the Anthony Nolan Trust. Territory Manager Sarah George’s son had Acute Myloid Leukaemia and needed a bone marrow transplant. The Anthony Nolan Trust specialises in finding and matching donors, and a successful match was made. Sarah has been raising money for the Trust for years and it couldn’t be a more personal and deserving cause. By the start the team had raised over £1600 and as the day progressed the total climbed. So far 114 supporters have given £2,534 which makes their efforts so worthwhile.

Bike Ride Progress

By the end of what turned out to be a long, sore day for the part-time cyclists amongst the team, all 9 had crossed the line at the Welsh coast, just yards from the Irish Sea. The regulars had pulled out a couple of hours on those trying it for the first time, but, after a moment to reflect and get their breath back, all agreed it was worth the effort.
